High Plains Gun Club Texas

Private Gun Club in Texas

Private Gun Club in Texas

High Plains Gun Club is an exclusive, member only hunting club headquartered on 110 Acres just 4 miles north of Haskell, TX. Members will have access to some of the best waterfowl and dove hunting Texas has to offer. The main property features a 2 story 3,650 sqft lodge that sleeps 14 people. There is also a separate cabin on property that sleeps 2 people. There are 16 acre and 10 acre main lakes on this property with control valves and culverts, along with levees that capture water from cultivated farmland for additional 20 acre and 15 acre areas. Both lakes have been cultivated and planted specifically for waterfowl hunting for over 10 years. The Dove hunting is world class, due to the 53 acres of sunflowers that are shredded every year 1 week before dove opener. There are currently plans in place to build two 5 acre holding tanks, each being 45 feet deep. These will both be stocked with fish and also provide a water source to pump into the waterfowl impoundment. This guarantees water in the impoundments for our members regardless of weather conditions. Very few waterfowl properties in West Texas can say the same.

Location

Location

Location is everything when it comes to waterfowl hunting and Haskell county has long been known for world class waterfowl hunting, including geese, ducks and cranes. This can primarily be attributed to the vast amount of peanut, milo and corn farms within the county. Our main property is in the center of these farms and is one of the few water sources in the area. The ranch is also only 4 miles from Zahn Lake, which has been roosting up to 100,000 ducks and geese for hundreds of years. This results in consistent duck and goose numbers year after year.

Dove & Teal Hunting

Dove & Teal Hunting

Dove Hunting

Preparation for dove season begins every year in the early spring. Milo and sunflowers are drilled throughout the property. Our ranch is one of the only spots in the area with mesquite trees, water and sunflowers. On evening hunts, it’s not uncommon to have flocks of 50-100 dove landing in these mesquite trees at once. All 3 of these key features combine to create a world-class dove hunting experience right next to our lodge.

Early Season Teal Hunting

Every year over 5 million blue wing teal migrate from Canada to the Texas coast. During september you can find thousands of these teal throughout Haskell county. Our property is consistently one of the best places to hunt teal in the region. This can be attributed to the extensive cultivation in our impoundments including smartweed, wild rice, millet and milo. Early season teal hunting is typically fast paced with limits often being reached by 8:00 AM.

Duck Hunting

Duck Hunting

Our duck hunting offers a variety of species rarely found anywhere else. During early season duck hunts you can expect to see high numbers of pintails, gadwall, teal and a few mallards. As colder weather arrives you will begin to see much higher numbers of mallards and wigeon with pintail numbers holding steady. Our extensive offseason cultivation insures ducks always have plentiful food to eat. Combine this with our large holding tanks and we have the two most important things for excellent duck hunting, water and food. Our Pre-installed pit blinds make hunting as stress free as possible. Simply load up the polaris with our decoys and drive right up to the blind of your choice. Members will also have access to additional 4 private duck lakes within 20 minutes of the main lodge. These range from flooded wheat fields with water pumps to lakes with abundant natural vegetation. This ensures we don’t put to much pressure on our birds and makes for consistent hunting throughout the season.

Goose Hunts

Goose Hunts

Haskell county consistently winters more geese than any other county in Texas, with numbers averaging 100,000-175,000. For the past decade this has mostly consisted of specklebelly geese with some canada and snow geese mixed in. Our property sits in the dead center of Haskell’s milo farms and is the closest water source to many of the milo fields. When the geese get done feeding in the morning they head straight to water to drink. This results in some phenomenal mid-morning goose hunts on our property. Geese are also easier to hunt on water than dry fields and less of a premium is placed on calling and decoy set up. If you would like to hunt dry fields for geese we also have access to a wide option of fields in the area.

Crane Hunts

Crane Hunts

Haskell county is also home to thousands of Sandhill cranes during the winter. Much like the geese, cranes roost on playa lakes in the area and feed in ag fields. While not quite as consistent as our ducks or geese, they will loaf on our impoundments throughout the season. Sandhill cranes have excellent eyesight and are extremely weary birds. Our pit blinds make staying hidden from these birds effortless and simple. If you so desire, we have dry fields available for crane hunting as well.
